Dear (recipient name),

I am writing to ask for your consideration of the impact reductions will have on the California State University (CSU) system when working together to pass a budget. While I am aware that in order for the budget to pass balanced it will require reductions across the board including our colleges and universities. However, I urge that you do what you can to minimize the reductions to CSU and give our campuses the greatest flexibility possible. This will give the university a greater ability to manage these reductions and balance their impact on students, faculty and staff.

Secondly, I ask the legislature take action quickly to pass a budget in order to give the state and the CSU as much time as possible to determine how to best mitigate these cuts so they have the least impact on students, faculty and staff.

Finally, I strongly encourage the legislature to approve the capital outlay projects proposed by the Governor from lease-revenue bonds for the CSU.  Moving forward now on these projects makes sense for the state in several respects. They will provide desperately needed economic stimulus and job creation—nearly 3,500 direct jobs. Additionally, moving forward now has no impact on the state General Fund in 2009-10 or for several years beyond because debt service on these bonds does not start until after the projects are completed.
